About Me:

Welcome to Falken Creative, the online portfolio of Benjamin Falk—student, designer and (primarily) front end developer.

For as long as I can remember, I've been involved in art or design in some way. Born in Pasadena, California, I started doodling at a young age, a skill that now comes in handy when I'm in class (just kidding!) My early love of drawing led me to take several years of art classes in high school, which gave me a strong foundation in composition and color theory. Since then, I've been heavily involved in both the graphic design and web design fields, which fit my talents for layout, organization, and logical thinking.

In short, I design pretty things. More specifically, I enjoy applying my creative talents to both online and offline media, creating clean, eye-catching designs that combine elegance with functionality. In my view, great design is all about communication—finding the right creative solution that clearly communicates an idea or concept. I am especially passionate about corporate branding and identity development, and I welcome the challenge of bringing a client's vision to life.

Education
I have attended Saddleback College for the past three years, pursuing a variety of design and technical classes, including Graphic Design, Typography, Web Design, Flash and PHP. After transferring in Fall 2009, I am currently attending CSU Chico in Northern California, where I am majoring in visual communications (with a focus in graphic design) and minoring in computer science.

Design Experience
I have been working in the design field since 2005, offering my skills as a graphic designer, web designer, and jack-of-all-trades, although not necessarily in that order. In addition to school and the occasional freelance opportunity, I work part time for Web Advanced, a web development firm based in Irvine, California.

When I have the spare time, I enjoy spending time with my girlfriend of four years, Amanda, catching up with friends, and working on a variety of personal projects. I currently live in Chico, California, where I'm often told I work too much and sleep too little.
